Blue Velvet (1986)

Bobby Vinton’s number one love song “Blue Velvet” (1963) can be heard while horrors are seen in David Lynch’s creepy thriller Blue Velvet (1986). Not to be confused with the romantic drama Blue Valentine (2010), this cult classic follows college student Jeffery Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) as he returns home to North Carolina after his father (Jack Harvey) suffers a stroke. Even though his small town looks picture-perfect on the surface, all is not what it seems. While wandering through a field near his house, Jeffery discovers a severed ear covered with ants. When the local police (George Dickerson and Fred Pickler) are unable to investigate the lopped-off lobe, Jeff and the detective’s daughter Sandy Williams (Laura Dern) begin an investigation of their own. As such, our hero discovers a dark underworld and runs into a bunch of freaks including Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper), Ben (Dean Stockwell) and Raymond (Brad Dourif). Soon, Jeffery becomes suspicious of nightclub singer Dorothy Vallens (played Lynch’s then real life partner Isabella Rossellini). One thing leads to another and the next thing you know he’s drawn into her seductive web. Suffice it to say, solving a crime has never been as scary — or as sexy! This is especially the case when Dorothy makes Jeffery strip at knifepoint. During the kinky scene, we are treated to views of Kyle’s nude booty. If that’s not erotic enough, the dark-haired hottie steams up the screen when he flashes his abs, bush, and junk! Blue Velvet balls are bound to follow.
