Everyone has a good time watching movies about time travel — from The Time Machine (1960) to The Adam Project (2022) with Time After Time (1979), Hot Tub Time Machine (2010), About Time (2013), and Interstellar (2014) in between. Just look at the success of Terry Gilliam’s fantastical flicks Time Bandits (1981) and 12 Monkeys (1995); James Cameron’s mega-hits The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger; the Back to the Future (1985-1990) franchise by Robert Zemeckis; and Woody Allen’s rom-coms Sleeper (1973) and Midnight in Paris (2011) for which he won an Oscar. Of course, we can’t forget Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter as the titular heroes in the cult classics Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991) and Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020). Following in Bill and Ted’s comical footsteps is Ripped (2017). Under the direction of Brad Epstein, this romp centers around two slackers — Reeves (Faizon Love) and His (Russell Peters) — who smoked top secret weed from the CIA back in 1986. Propelled to 2016, they now can’t remember what happened over the last 30 years of their life. The pot was THAT good! As such, the pair of stoners must navigate the modern world to try and get their lives back on track. Along the way, they recall a time when young Reeves (Kyle Massey) and young Harris (Vandit Bhatt) expose their naked chests and bare buns during a flashback. Or should we say, flesh-back?
