Things aren’t what they seem in the R-rated thriller The Guest (2014), not to be confused with the R-rated thriller The Guest House (2017). This well-received pic follows former soldier David Collins (Dan Stevens), who shows up on the doorstep belonging to Spencer (Leland Orser) and Laura (Sheila Kelley) Peterson. Dave claims he’s a friend of their son Caleb (Chris Harding), who recently died in Afghanistan. In fact, David says he promised Caleb on the battlefield that he’d help take care of his family if he didn’t make it back alive. Being a man of his word, Mr. Collins moves in with the grieving Petersons and proves to be an asset. In addition to giving their young son Luke (Brendan Meyer) advice on how to deal with a school bully, David steps in when Caleb’s sis Anna (Maika Monroe) and her friend Kristen (Tabatha Shaun) must deal with a jerk. Nevertheless, Anna is suspicious of David despite the fact that everyone else in the family is bewitched by his soft-spoken charm. Are they not taking note of a bunch of “accidental” deaths that start taking place? Don’t they know David was programmed in a military medical experiment to kill? As the body count continues to rise, Anna tries to expose the titular figure’s homicidal behaviors. Speaking of exposure, Mr. Man loves when Mr. Stevens flashes his abs as he exits the bathroom after a shower. All it takes is one glance at his wet pecs to make us reach for a towel!
