Bergman Island (2021)

Bergman Island (2021) is a Nordic film in the tradition of the great Swedish director Ingmar Bergman that also happens to use some real Bergman lore in the film. Mia Hansen-Love wrote and directed this film about a couple who decide to take a break from reality to the same island that Ingmar Bergman allegedly went to and was inspired to write multiple screenplays. It's Faro Island, by the way. The couple, two writers, go to the island to gain inspiration for their upcoming projects. While they are there, however, their ideas about reality and fantasy begin to blur. Vicky Krieps plays the female writer and struggles with her place in the family as a mother, wife, and writer who feels pressure to give up her dreams and focus on her work. The two write their separate scripts loosely based on these experiences and their script ideas start to blur with their real lives as they struggle to find inspiration and respect on the island and with one another. The island is beautiful. The stories are beautiful. The men are gorgeous! Hampus Nordenson plays Hampus and he goes shirtless by the shore. Albin Grenhold plays a friend who shows his buns when he jumps into the sea. Anders Danielsen Lie plays Joseph who does all kinds of things. He shows his ass in a straight sex scene and when he gets down to just his undies, we get to behold that epic blog. Looking at Anders would have certainly given Bergman a lot of inspiration. It is giving us skinspiration!
