In The House (2012)

No Nudity

Review

A gifted literature student’s strange inspiration leads to some rather shocking consequences in the thriller In the House (2012), not to be confused with the thriller parody The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022). Also known as Dans la maison, this foreign film features dialogue spoken in French. Ooh la la! Based on Juan Mayorgas play El chico de la última fila (The Boy in the Last Row), the mystery follows Germain Germain (Fabrice Luchini), a writing teacher whose boredom with and distaste for his intellectually indifferent students is shaken up when he reads an intriguing essay by talented teen Claude Garcia (Ernst Umhauer). The precocious pupil pens a piece about invading a bourgeois family’s home. Fascinated by the concept, Germain encourages Claude to further develop the work. As such, the line between fantasy and reality begins to blur. In other words, Claude seduces his friend’s mom (Emmanuelle Seigner) as well as Germain’s wife (Kristin Scott Thomas). Suffice it to say, all parties involved get quite an education! Under the pen and direction of François Ozon, this R rated movie includes Jean-François Balmer, Yolande Moreau, and Denis Ménochet’s bare body! The Inglourious Basterds (2009) actor shows off his glorious glutes and chest while taking a shower with a shirtless Monsieur Umhauer. If that’s not steamy enough, Denis flashes his sack and shaft! No wonder the movie received the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián International Film Festival and a standing ovation in our pants!
