Lawn Dogs (1997)

Before they became stars, Mischa Barton and Sam Rockwell performed in Lawn Dogs (1997). The R rated flick centers around Devon Stockard (Barton). Even though she’s only 10-years-old, the precocious child feels grown up since she’s recovered from heart surgery. Set in Kentucky, Devon resides in a gated community called Camelot Gardens with her dad Morton (Christopher McDonald) and mom Clare (Kathleen Quinlan). Alas, Mommie Dearest spreads her legs to get mowed by any guy with a working hose, including Brett (David Barry Gray). Meanwhile, Devon befriends local landscaper Trent Burns (Rockwell). But when she insists he touch her surgical scar, the relationship becomes awkward. Of course, it doesn’t help that he accidentally runs over a dog. As such, the departed canine’s owner (Eric Mabius) and Devon’s father take turns beating Trent, who actually is innocent of any wrongdoing. It’s no surprise, he must leave town. But not before he gets busy with Pamela Gregory (Angie Harmon). We (and a peeping Devon) get to see Trent and Pam hook up in his mobile home. Don’t come a knockin’ if the trailer is a rockin’! In fact, Mr. Rockwell flashes his abs, ass, sack and shaft 9 minutes into the pic! So, that’s why it won the Audience Award at the Athens International Film Festival and the Stockholm Film Festival. Plus, Sam was named Best Actor at both the Montreal World Film Festival and the Sitges Film Festival. Needless to say, Mr. Man would love to bury his bone in this lawn dog!
