The Dressmaker (2015)

You know you’re in for a good costume drama when the title of a movie is The Dressmaker (2015). Not to be confused with The Dressmaker (1988) starring Joan Plowright and Billie Whitelaw, this stylish flick features Kate Winslet and Liam Hemsworth as it deals with themes of breaking a curse and knowing one’s worth. Under the direction of Jocelyn Moorhouse (who co-wrote the screenplay with P. J. Hogan), the period piece includes Beulah Harridiene (Kerry Fox), Horatio Farrat (Hugo Weaving), Molly Dunnage (Judy Davis), Trudy Pratt (Sarah Snook), and William Beaumont (James Mackay). Based on the same-named book by Rosalie Ham, the 1926-set story takes place in the Outback. As such, the movie kicked arse at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards with 13 nominations and wins for Best Lead Actress (Winslet), Best Supporting Actress (Davis), Best Supporting Actor (Weaving), and Best Costume Design (Marion Boyce and Margot Wilson). If that’s not impressive enough, the pic picked up a Dorian Award for Best Campy Film of the Year! In addition to these accolades, The Dressmaker made a pretty profit at the box office. More importantly, it generated great interest in Mr. Man’s spank bank thanks to hunky Mr. Hemsworth. As Teddy McSwiney, Liam touts his McSixPack while posing for Myrtle “Tilly” Dunnage (Winslet). Needless to say, the saucy Aussie makes us wonder what’s going on down under. To that end, he drops trow to reveal his boxers. We’re guessing Liam’s shorts will make you long in the pants!
