Action and comedy unite in the Western There Was a Crooked Man… (1970) from legendary filmmaker Joseph L. Mankiewicz of All About Eve (1950) and Cleopatra (1961) fame. In this flick, Kirk Douglas plays Paris Pitman Jr., a bandit who hit the jackpot when he nabbed $500,000 in cold cash from a robbery. But when the thief heads to a bordello to have some fun, he is apprehended, tried, convicted and sentenced to hard time breaking rocks under the sun at a penitentiary in Arizona. With Pitman behind bars, everyone wants to know where he has stashed his stolen cash. As such, corrupt warden LeGoff (Martin Gabel) proposes a deal with Pitman. He’ll split the loot and let him loose if Paris retrieves it. Even though he agrees, the deal goes belly up when LeGoff is murdered during a prisoner uprising. While Sheriff Woodward W. Lopeman (Henry Fonda) takes over the warden’s position, Pitman escapes. Needless to say, Lopeman is hot on Pit’s tail. If Mr. Man was the warden, he’d be hot on Pit’s tale! This is especially true since Mr. Douglas displays his naked T&A while hopping out of bed just 11 minutes into the pic. Later, Kirk briefly bares his abs, ass, and back sack when jumping into a barrel tub. Rub a dub dub! Not to be outdone Coy Cavendish (Michael Blodgett) hardly seems coy when he touts his bare chest and nude booty in the bath. Maybe this movie should be called There Was a Naked Man…!
